Stuttgart is at the heart of the densely populated southwestern part of Germany. Capital of the Badden-Wurttemberg State, the city serves as a jump off point for trips to Lake Constance, Hohenloher Land and the Black Forest. Backpackers are wont to include Stuttgart in their itineraries due to its proximity to Switzerland, France and Austria.

Art galleries, museums, elegant palaces and scenic city squares are aplenty in Stuttgart. The city also has a plethora of boutiques and trendy cafes to cap off the cosmopolitan layout of the cityscape. Two of the foremost figures in Stuttgart’s gilded landmarks and buildings are New Palace (Neuss Schloss) and Palace Square (Schlossplatz). Housing the Ministry of Culture and Finance, the New Palace took several years to finish from 1746 to 1807 and is largely influenced by French architecture. There are yet more royal buildings found in Stuttgart’s famous landmark of Palace Square.

There are hundreds of notable churches in the city, but perhaps Collegiate Church or Stiftskirche is the most historic. With foundations dating back to the 12th century, the Gothic cathedral is well preserved because of the major archaeological findings housed inside. Among the memorable museums in the city, the Mercedes Benz Museum draws more crowds who wish to see the legacy of this luxury car. Other notable museums include the Porsche Museum, State Gallery, Planetarium Stuttgart and Linden Museum.

Stuttgart is one of the key European destinations served by Air France, Singapore Airlines, Swissair, Lufthansa and Cathay Pacific from its departure point of Singapore. Flights take an average of 15 hours but the trip is definitely well worth it!
